After installing back in the moment at North Metropolitan TAFE, I photographed and uploaded images of the work to this website. When I was writing titles I noticed the typo, just one, I felt a bit of panic, I can be rather a perfectionist, perhaps this is why I am drawn to print.
Pebbles “We spot glass pebbles” I had written peebles, what is peebles, where is peebles, turns out thanks to a google search Peebles is a town in Scotland with a population of around 9,000. Nice bit of info to know. So peebles the print stays and it reminds me that seeking perfection is rather a bad idea and also completely unrealistic and a bit presumptuous.
This leads me back to previous exhibitions and the other part of the title forgetting to mirror reverse. Many will know and some may not that all printing techniques require you to mirror reverse everything so if you want something to print on the right it needs to be on the left and if you want something to print on the left it needs to be on the right. I tend to work in series and in my last two major previous series I forgot to mirror reverse one image. Again this was only noticed after I installed the work and there was panic. But then as now I made the decision that it was more important to keep the mistake and own it. Funnily enough it is only ever one work and it in no other way affects the outcome.
As I work to a new solo show I wonder whether there will be a typo or a mirrror reverse. I guess I will find out in October and I am starting to look forward to it.
